On November 14, 2024, the management team of Project BSB00168 Know What You Breathe: Mobilizing Communities for Air Quality in the Black Sea Basin (AIRQUEST) gathered in Varna, Bulgaria. Hosted by the Bulgarian Association for Transfer of Technology and Innovation (BATTI), the meeting marked an important milestone for the project. Representatives from Türkiye, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Romania discussed the project’s progress and outlined strategies for the future.

Meeting Highlights

  1. Air Quality Monitoring Portal Design
    The mapping styles for the AIRQUEST Air Quality Monitoring Portal were evaluated.
  2. Index Customization
    Air Quality Indexes to be used in the project were identified.  
  3. Notification System Development
    Plans for an innovative notification system within the AIRQUEST app were discussed.
  4. Dissemination Strategies
    Dissemination strategies were refined to maximize outreach and impact.
  5. Data Collection Automation
    Ways to automate live data access from air quality monitoring portals were discussed.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Gürbüz (LP) was discussing different air quality mapping procedures.

The meeting demonstrated AIRQUEST’s commitment to fostering cross-border collaboration for air quality improvement. As the project progresses, its innovative tools and community-focused strategies promise to make a meaningful impact across the Black Sea Basin.
