Privacy Policy AirQuest Mobile

Last Updated: 2025-11-25

BeeSense (“we,” “our,” or “us”) provides the BSB AirQuest mobile application (the “App”) on iOS and Android. This notice explains how we handle information when you use the App to view air quality data, receive alerts, and use the optional SOS shortcut. We do not operate user accounts and do not collect names, emails, phone numbers, or contact lists.

Key Points

  • Location access is used to show nearby air quality data and, if you enable alerts, to run background monitoring. You can disable location and use manual search instead.
  • No advertisements and no in-app analytics SDKs. We do not sell or rent data.
  • Air quality and map data are requested from third-party providers (e.g., WAQI/Airnet, OpenWeatherMap, OpenStreetMap Nominatim). Requests include coordinates or search text needed to return results.
  • Information we store is saved locally on your device (AsyncStorage). BeeSense does not maintain a backend for this App.
  • The SOS button opens your device dialer; calls are never auto-placed. A local log of dial attempts may include the dialed number and optional location.

1) Information We Process

Location data (foreground and optional background): Used to find the nearest monitoring stations, render maps, and (if alerts are enabled) check conditions in the background roughly every 15 minutes. Coordinates may also be saved with favorites, AQI caches, and optional emergency logs. We do not store location on BeeSense servers.

Search inputs: Place names you type are sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to convert text to coordinates. We do not keep a server copy of your searches.

On-device app data: Stored in your device’s app storage only, including favorites (station IDs, names, coordinates), notification preferences, throttling counters, AQI cache, station blacklist, language preference, developer settings, and notification history (kept to the most recent 100 entries). Emergency SOS logs keep up to 50 recent dial attempts with the chosen number and, if available, location details. Removing the app or clearing its storage removes this data.

Device information for debugging: The App may read device ID and simulator status to decide whether to show developer options. This information is logged locally for troubleshooting and is not sent to BeeSense.

What we do not collect: No user accounts, no contact lists, no photos/media, no advertising identifiers, and no behavioral analytics.

2) How We Use Information

  • Provide real-time AQI readings, pollutant details, and map overlays for your selected or current location.
  • Run optional background monitoring and send local notifications when air quality categories change according to your preferences.
  • Save favorites, notification history, and SOS logs locally so you can revisit them.
  • Troubleshoot reliability issues through on-device logs without transmitting them to BeeSense.

3) Permissions and Your Controls

  • Location: Granting precise/approximate location improves accuracy for nearby stations and background alerts. You can deny or revoke location in device settings; manual search continues to work without GPS, and background monitoring will stop when location is disabled.
  • Background location: Used only when notifications/monitoring are enabled to check air quality near you or your saved favorites. Disable notifications or location to stop background checks.
  • Notifications: Needed to deliver air quality alerts. Turn off in the App’s notification settings or your device settings to stop alerts.
  • Emergency SOS Feature: Tapping the SOS button triggers a shortcut to open your device’s native phone dialer with a pre-set emergency number. The App does not automatically place calls, track your real-time location during the call, or contact emergency services directly; you must press the “Call” button in your dialer. This feature is a convenience tool and not a replacement for primary emergency calling systems (e.g., 911, 112), and its operation depends on your device’s battery, system capabilities, and network connectivity.
  • Storage: Data is stored in the App’s local sandbox. You may delete favorites or notification history inside the App; clearing app storage or uninstalling removes all locally stored data.

4) Third-Party Services That Receive Data

We use third parties solely to return environmental or map information. They receive only the data necessary to fulfill your request (such as coordinates or search text):

  • World Air Quality Index (WAQI/Airnet)api.waqi.info and airnet.waqi.info for station data near supplied coordinates.
  • OpenWeatherMapapi.openweathermap.org and related tile endpoints for pollutant history and wind overlays using your coordinates.
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatimnominatim.openstreetmap.org for geocoding search queries and reverse geocoding coordinates.
  • Map providers (Apple Maps/Google Maps) – Used via React Native Maps to render base maps; their platforms may process location as part of normal map operation.

These providers have their own privacy terms. We do not share data with advertising networks and do not run analytics SDKs.

5) Health and Medical Disclaimer

  • Not a Medical Device: The App provides air quality data and related health recommendations (e.g., “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups”) based on publicly available standards. This information is intended for general educational and informational purposes only.
  • No Professional Advice: The services provided by this App do not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Users should not rely on this information as a substitute for professional medical advice. Always seek the advice of a physician or other qualified health provider with any questions regarding a medical condition or respiratory sensitivity.

6) Data Retention

  • Notification history: latest 100 entries stored locally until you clear them in the history screen or remove the App.
  • Emergency SOS log: latest 50 entries stored locally; removing app data or uninstalling deletes them.
  • Favorites, AQI cache, and preferences remain on your device until you remove them or uninstall the App.
  • BeeSense does not keep copies of this data on its own servers.

7) Security

Network requests to third-party APIs use HTTPS. Because data stays on your device and no BeeSense backend is involved, remote exposure is limited to the third-party services named above. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, so please use the App on trusted networks.

8) Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can assist with removal.

9) Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect App or provider changes. We will post the updated version here with a new “Last Updated” date.
